Collaboration and motivation are big topics at the moment, and it is great to see an update to the SMART acronym for setting goals or objectives.

The CLEAR alternative to SMART goals and objectives was created by Adam Kreek - Olympic Gold Medal rower.

CLEAR

Collaborative

Limited

Emotional

Appreciable

Refineable

Collaborative

You can't achieve as much on your own, you may need to collaborate for success

Limited

Goals must be limited in time and scope

Emotional

Goals should make a connection with your teams, tapping into energy and passion

Appreciable (or actionable)

Large goals broken down into smaller goals so they can be accomplished more quickly and must be actionable

Refinable

Goals should be steadfast to a point, but as new situations or information arise, goals can be refined and modified

We’ll certainly look to use these when helping a client set their objectives.
